This is a very nifty link. I came across it a few weeks ago while researching for the ancestory project. I think it is worth noting thatthe first messageon the site talks about immigration reform. In california the most common individuals to be " illegal" are often from neighboring nations to the south, it is interesting to note there are many different ethnic groups who have come illegally and suppport immigration reform. The collective voices calling for reform are geographically wide ranging but all have the same message; we need to end the actions our government takes to force many people to live in the shadows of  America.

This is a link to an interesting record of interviews of individuals who travelled to the United States. One great aspect of the site is the option of picking a geographic region of interest, so if you are interested in immigrants of a specific regi8nm you can research them specifically from a particular region.

This is a killer powerpoint from the Pew research center. The focus is on the issues facing illegal aliens in the United States.  The powerpoint looks at the correlation between individuals staying in the USA and economic prosperity. A geographic breakdown of the total %  of undocumented individuals in the United States is also quite educating, who would have thought Illinois would have a substantial undocumented population?

This is a very interesting website which describes the ships, routes and yaears of operation. It is interesting to look up images of some of the ships and look at the advancements in size and speed of the ships. One constant is that the ships are crowded with people in all of the images.

The following links show the route of pilgrims who made the transatlantic journey from England to America. Passageweather.com shows the weather patterns, currents and temperatures, illustrating the hardships the earliest anglo settlers experienced on the journey from England to the New World. An interactive map shows different parts of the atlantic and the current conditions. The hardships of the individuals onboard were vast. Lack of food, water and the presence of rats and scurvy made the trip trying at best. Wave height, direction, temperature and pressure would all have major impact on the speed a sailboat can reach. All of these variables are visibly represented in the interactive map.
